Which level of exam should I take?
The candidate should decide by him or herself which level of exam to take. Candidates generally decide on the basis of their reason for taking the exam, that is, what they need the Certificate of Slovene for.
Generally, the Basic Level Exam is chosen by those candidates who are in the process of obtaining Slovene citizenship, since a Certificate of Slovene is a requirement for that purpose.
The Intermediate Level Exam is generally chosen by candidates who wish to enrol into the first or second year of a university or college in Slovenia. Some candidates chose the Basic or Intermediate level Exam because a Certificate of Slovene as a Second/Foreign Language is a job requirement (required by their employer).
The Advanced Level Exam is generally chosen by candidates with a university degree who need the Certificate of Slovene for professional purposes (e.g., doctors, pharmacists, teachers of music, etc.)
If you need a Certificate of Slovene for an official purpose, you should first ask the institution or company in question (e.g., your employer, the employment service) which level of the exam is required.
