The Exam
There are three levels of the Slovene Language Exam – Basic, Intermediate and Advanced – in accordance with the standards of linguistic knowledge specified by the educational programme Slovene for Foreign Learners.
Internationational Comparability
All three levels take the speakers and their levels of independence in communicating in Slovene into consideration and are internationally comparable:
- the Basic Level with the third level (B1),
- the Intermediate Level with the fourth level (B2) and
- the Advanced Level with the fifth level (C1) of the Common European Framework for Languages (Skupni evropski jezikovni okvir).
Registration and cancellation
Application form should be sent to: [email protected] or via mail.
The candidates must register at least 10 days before the date of the exam. Any individual may register for the Slovene Language Exam, regardless of whether he or she has studied according to the Slovene for Foreigners programme or attended the preparatory course. Candidates need to obtain a residence permit prior to entering the country.
The exam is organised if at least six candidates were registered.
When taking the exam, the candidates must submit a passport and receipt of payment.
The candidate may cancel the registration at least 2 days before the date of the exam – in this case he or she may sit the exam on the next date of the exam. If the candidate fails to give notification of cancellation, he or she must pay the full fee for the next exam.

The exam fee is the same at all the institutions:
- EUR 120 for the Basic Level and
- EUR 135 for the Intermediate and Advanced Levels
The fee includes information material, sample test, administration of the exam, certificate/exam report and cost of postage.
Candidates who can take the first exam of Slovene on Basic level free of charge based on the Decree on aliens integration must provide a certificate attesting compliance for their participation in the programmes when they apply for the exam. More...
